- Nigerian man reportedly hacked to death in South Africa as xenophobic attacks continue
A man believed to be a Nigerian has reportedly been killed by a mob in Durban, South Africa, as attacks on foreigners in the country go on. Police in KwaZulu-Natal say a group of about 50 people was marching along Dr Pixley kaSeme Street in the city centre on Thursday, 22 October, when two men broke away, approached a man standing by the roadside and attacked him. He was declared dead at the scene. Police have not named the victim, describing him only as a foreign national in his late 30s or early 40s. A source told SaharaReporters that he was Nigerian and that he was hacked to death, but this has not been independently confirmed. Videos circulating online show a crowd armed with sticks and other weapons chasing a man in a red top and blue jeans through an open street in Durban, knocking him down and beating him repeatedly. Two security officers appear to try to step in but pull back as the crowd grows. It is not yet clear whether the videos show the same attack police are investigating. Police have opened a murder case and say they are following several leads to identify and arrest the suspects. No arrests have been announced. The killing comes amid a wave of anti-immigrant protests and violence that spread across South Africa this year, with groups demanding that foreigners leave the country. Nigeria's ambassador-designate, Femi Fani-Kayode, said in September that at least 12 Nigerians had been killed in South Africa in 2026, and 112 since 2022, with no convictions. Nigeria's Foreign Affairs Ministry says more than 2,000 Nigerians have returned home on evacuation flights since June, and has urged those still in South Africa to stay vigilant, avoid affected areas and keep in touch with the High Commission and consulate.
- Biya is back in Cameroon, but can the 93-year-old still rule?
Two months after Paul Biya flew home from Switzerland, Cameroonians are still asking the same question: who is really running the country? The 93-year-old, the world's oldest serving head of state, landed in Yaoundé on 20 August after 73 days abroad, most of it reportedly spent at the InterContinental Hotel in Geneva. It was the longest absence of a presidency that began in November 1982, far beyond his previous record of 42 days away in 2024, and it set off fresh speculation about his health. Since his return, very little has happened. Biya won an eighth term in the disputed October 2025 election, with the Constitutional Council declaring him winner on 53.66 per cent, a result runner-up Issa Tchiroma Bakary still rejects from exile. A year on, he has not named a new government, and a long-promised cabinet reshuffle has yet to come. The bigger worry is succession. In April, parliament restored the post of vice president, whose holder would automatically take over if the president died, resigned or could no longer serve. Only Biya can fill it, and he has not. In June, a sealed envelope containing a supposed presidential decree naming a vice president was delivered to state broadcaster CRTV, a document the government later disputed. Without a vice president, Senate President Aboubakary Abdoulaye would lead until fresh elections. Many analysts see Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, Secretary-General of the Presidency, as the country's de facto ruler and a possible vice president-in-waiting. Government spokesman René Emmanuel Sadi insists the timing of any appointments is the president's call alone. Critics say Cameroon is being run on autopilot while it battles a separatist conflict in its English-speaking regions and attacks by Islamic State-linked fighters in the north.
- Moment multi-storey building under construction collapses in Nairobi's Eastleigh
A multi-storey building still under construction came crashing down in the Eastleigh area of Nairobi, Kenya, early on Friday afternoon, sparking a frantic rescue operation amid fears that several people were trapped under the rubble. The structure stood along Yusuf Haji Avenue, next to Day to Day Supermarket on 9th Street, in one of the city's busiest commercial hubs. Reports of its height vary, with some outlets putting it at 18 floors and Nairobi police commander Issa Mohamed saying it was about 10. Videos from the scene show slabs of concrete falling and a thick cloud of dust rolling down the street as people ran for safety. Kenya Red Cross teams, Nairobi County emergency crews and police joined the search, and the county said excavators had been brought in to clear debris and reach anyone trapped. Police fired tear gas to push back crowds of onlookers and stop the looting of nearby shops. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja reportedly confirmed that one person had been pulled out alive, and the search continued into the night. The cause of the collapse is not yet known. It comes less than a week after another building collapse on Moi Avenue in Nairobi's central business district.

Jarvis disagreed, telling him that if her family had chosen a husband for her, they would not have picked him, and that he should leave her family alone and focus on his own. An angry Peller removed her from the live and blocked her entire family, repeatedly asking his fans whether it was all because his body is small. Jarvis then blocked him too.
