Luxury SUVs for Tinubu's 2027 campaign spark anger as UN says 17.9m more Nigerians are now poor

Photos of brand-new SUVs branded "#TinubuAgain 2027" are going round online, and many Nigerians are not happy. Posts on social media say the campaign is using BMW, Range Rover, GMC and Acura vehicles. We could confirm that GMC and Toyota SUVs have been given out, but not the other brands.
- This week, Defence Minister Bello Matawalle gave GMC Terrain SUVs to eight Zamfara lawmakers who stayed in the APC. Kaduna Governor Uba Sani gave Toyota Highlanders to APC council chairmen, and Tompolo's support group has sent dozens of vehicles to Kogi, Kwara and other states.
- APC supporters say the cars were bought by party members and support groups, not with government money, and there is no evidence so far that public funds were used.
- It comes days after a UN report said 17.9 million more Nigerians fell into poverty between 2021 and 2024, the biggest rise of any country in the world. That period covers Buhari's last two years and Tinubu's first year.
- Many people online are asking why the money is not being spent on ambulances and hospital equipment instead.
