Sola Sobowale opens care home for older people in Ibadan, Makinde commissions it

Veteran Nollywood actress Sola Sobowale has opened a residential care home for older people in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The opening
Oyo governor Seyi Makinde formally commissioned the facility, named Joseph and Esther Homes, on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. Located in the Akobo area of Ibadan, it is designed to give older adults a safe and supportive place where they can live independently while receiving professional care. The governor toured the indoor and outdoor areas and cut the ribbon.
The idea behind it
The home operates under the motto 'Live Well, Age Well, Thrive Together'. Its organisers say it is meant to complement family care rather than replace it, helping families look after their elderly relatives better. Formal care homes are still uncommon in Nigeria, where older people have traditionally been cared for at home by relatives.
Who attended
Sobowale welcomed guests alongside veteran actor Adebayo Salami. Other Nollywood figures at the event included Kunle Afolayan, Femi Adebayo and Ibrahim Chatta. The launch was streamed live on the actress's Instagram page.
Background
Sola Sobowale is one of Nollywood's most respected actresses, known for her role in the 'King of Boys' films and decades of work in Yoruba and English-language cinema.
