A Nigerian car dealer known online as Moses Auto Car Care has described the heavy losses he suffered after a fire swept through his car lot.

What he said

In comments shared on Monday, 2 November 2026, the dealer reportedly said that cars worth more than ₦500 million belonging to him were destroyed in the fire. He added that customers' vehicles worth over ₦200 million were also burnt, including cars that buyers had already paid for but had not yet collected. He did not say what caused the fire or when exactly it happened.

How people reacted

Many social media users expressed sympathy and prayed for him to recover from the loss, with some praising him for staying strong. Others said the incident showed the importance of insurance, which many Nigerian businesses do not take, and of basic fire safety equipment such as alarms and sprinklers. Some asked how the customers who had paid for cars would be compensated.

Background

Fires at markets, shops and car lots cause large losses in Nigeria every year, often linked to electrical faults or poor safety measures. Fire services frequently urge business owners to install extinguishers and alarms and to insure their goods.

What happens next

It is not yet clear whether the business was insured or how the dealer plans to settle with affected customers.

The explanation

What has made the story even more talked about is the explanation she reportedly gave after being confronted, which is said to have left her husband speechless.

Was she simply doing her job, or did customer service become something else entirely?

Court orders arrest of Lagos NURTW chairman Sego over alleged contempt

The National Industrial Court in Lagos has ordered the arrest of Lagos NURTW chairman Mustapha Adekunle, known as Sego, and the union's secretary, after they failed to appear to explain why they should not be jailed for contempt. The case arises from a dispute with tricycle operators.

The National Industrial Court in Lagos has ordered the arrest and detention of the Lagos State chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, and the union's secretary, Usman Teslim.

What the court said

Justice Isaac Essien gave the order on Monday, 2 November 2026, after the two officials failed to appear in court to show why they should not be sent to prison for contempt. According to reports, the judge described their conduct as brazen disobedience of court orders and warned that the authority of the courts must not be undermined. He directed the Lagos Commissioner of Police, the state commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies to arrest the two men and hand them over to the officer in charge of the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

Bailiff obstruction

The court also raised concern over an affidavit filed by its bailiff, who said he was prevented from serving court papers on 5 October by a security officer linked to one of the parties in the case. Justice Essien reportedly described the alleged obstruction as a dangerous development.

Background

The case stems from a long-running dispute between commercial tricycle operators and the NURTW in Lagos over control of operations and levies. The union has been at the centre of several leadership and legal battles in the state in recent years. Sego and the union have not publicly responded to the order.

What happens next

The officials can still appear before the court or challenge the order on appeal. It is not yet clear whether security agencies have acted on the directive.

Iran says it could reopen Strait of Hormuz within two days if US meets its demands

Iran has reportedly said it could reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours if Washington accepts its conditions, including lifting oil sanctions and ending a naval blockade. Talks in Doha ended without a breakthrough.

Iran says it could reopen the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil shipping routes, within 48 hours if the United States accepts its conditions for ending the war between the two countries.

What Iran said

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday, 2 November 2026, that Tehran had shortened an earlier seven-day proposal to two days, and reportedly described this as a sign of good faith. He said reopening the waterway and returning to negotiations depended on Washington agreeing to Iran's demands, and that messages were still being exchanged through mediators.

Iran's conditions

According to reports, Iran wants an end to the war across the Middle East, the release of its frozen assets abroad, the lifting of sanctions on its oil sector and an end to the US naval blockade of its ports. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has also called for a new transit arrangement for ships passing through the strait, agreed between Iran and Oman, and fewer US troops in the region.

Background

The two countries have been in conflict for about eight months. Iranian and Qatari negotiators held three days of talks in Doha aimed at reaching a deal, but they ended without a breakthrough. On Sunday, President Donald Trump told a rally that the US might eventually have to give Iran 'the hammer', and Iran's army said it was ready for a long war.

Why it matters

A large share of the world's oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz. Disruption there affects global oil prices, which matters for Nigeria's earnings from crude oil and for fuel costs around the world.

Rapper Odumodublvck has sparked amused reactions online after claiming he introduced England and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice to Nigerians.

What he said

In comments shared on Monday, 2 November 2026, the rapper reportedly said that before he sang about Rice, nobody in Nigeria knew him, and that Rice blew up after the song, after which Arsenal discovered and signed him. He presented the claim as proof of how his music connects football and music fans.

The song

Odumodublvck released his hit 'Declan Rice' in 2023, and it became one of the most popular Nigerian rap songs of that year, helping to make him one of the country's best-known young rappers. Rice, who was then captain of West Ham United and already an England international, joined Arsenal in 2023 in a British record transfer.

How people reacted

Many fans mocked the claim, saying football followers in Nigeria knew Rice long before the song and that it was the rapper who benefited from the player's name, not the other way round. Others said he was joking or simply promoting himself, while some called it harmless banter.

Background

Odumodublvck is known for bold statements and a confident persona, which have helped keep him in the spotlight. Arsenal is one of the most widely supported English clubs in Nigeria.
